Profile

I have been a photographer for a number of years. After obtaining a Diploma in photography I started in my photographic career working for local newspapers and later as a magazine sports photographer before going back to working for a Regional newspaper. For a time I earned a living as a columnist and freelance writer before returning to my first love, photography, though I continue to write. More recently, I have specialised in garden, plant & food photography, providing pictures for publication in addition to my corporate and commercial photography.

Photographing plants and gardens is deceptive. Anyone can stand in a garden and take a picture. But to do that whilst working with the available natural light, to turn the ordinary or familiar in to the extra-ordinary is what garden and plant photography is about.

Food is the most difficult of all photographic disciplines. It requires not only an understanding of the subject, food, but the ability to control the light, natural or artificial, in or out of the studio. Bad food photography is just that, bad, whereas at it's best, the food photo raises its subject to the level of being mouth-wateringly sublime.
