Carl has been a photographer for a number of years. After leaving the army and following his obtaining Diplomas in journalism and photography he began his photographic career working for local newspapers and later as a magazine sports photographer before going back to working for a Regional newspaper. For a time he worked as a columnist and freelance writer before returning to his first love, photography, though he continues to write. More recently, he has specialised in garden, plant, and Re-enactment photography providing pictures for publication in addition to his corporate and commercial photography.

He is a member of both the Garden Media Guild and the Professional Garden Photographers Association.

Photographing plants and gardens is deceptive. Anyone can stand in a garden and take a picture. But to do that whilst working with the available natural light, to turn the ordinary or familiar in to the extra-ordinary is what garden and plant photography is about.
